On Saturday, October 12, 2002, the Sandy Run Lutheran Church and the Sandy Run Ruritan Club joined together for their fall Adopt-A-Highway trash pickup. Twenty-seven volunteers cleaned four miles of Highway 176 in Sandy Run. The Sandy Run Lutheran Church volunteers picked up thirty-five bags of trash and the Sandy Run Ruritan Club volunteers picked up thirty-seven bags of trash for a total of seventy-two bags. This was a lot of litter removed from the sides of the road. After they finished picking up trash everyone gathered at the home of Gerald and Becky Starnes for a cookout. This was a day that fulfilled the true meaning of the Ruritan motto: Fellowship, Good Will, and Community Service.
Volunteers from the Sandy Run Lutheran Church were Harry Bozard, Linda Bozard, Donald Bozard, Charles Ott, Elaine Ott, Bob Hawkins, Angela Campbell, Nancy Jeffcoat, Bill Yates and Sue Yates. Volunteers from the Sandy Run Ruritan Club were Marshall Stabler, Lena Stabler, Millie Black, Herbert Geiger, Brad Bozard, Gary Hardee, Dave Boney, Curtis Lake, Faye Lake, Kelly Lake, Hilda Wynn, Gerald Starnes, Becky Starnes, Howard Pees, Sandra Pees, Roger Hill, Gary Geiger, Glenn James, and Doug Watts. Thank you to each of the volunteers for helping to make the roadsides more beautiful in Sandy Run. Each of us should do our part to keep the highways of South Carolina litter free.
