Christmas In July Sandy Run Ruritan Club members gathered at the Sandy Run of Calhoun Fire Station on Friday, July 23, 2005 to prepare forty Christmas in July baskets for the senior citizens and shut-ins in the Sandy Run Community. Members participating in this project were Joney Albert, Dave Boney, Kathy Boney, Brad Bozard, Jackie Furtick, Nora Furtick, Betty Geiger, Gary Geiger, Herbert Geiger, Gary Hardee, Roger Hill, Kay James, Glenn James, Howard, Pees, Sandra Pees, Marshall Stabler, Lena Stabler, Becky Starnes, Gerald Starnes, Andrew Yancey, and Lee Yancey. We also had a visiting adopted member assisting with this project. She was Caty Geiger, granddaughter of Herbert and Betty Geiger who was visiting from Germany. Each Christmas In July basket contained four types of canned goods, candy, apples, oranges, grapes, bananas, a dishtowel, a dishcloth, and information about Ruritan. Ruritan members delivered the baskets on Friday evening and Saturday. This was truly a time when the Ruritan motto of “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service” was quite evident. Those giving the baskets and those receiving the baskets were truly blessed. The Christmas In July baskets is an annual project sponsored by the Sandy Run Ruritan Club.
Members gather for a group photo with the baskets.
