2004 Christmas Float The Fifth Annual Sandy Run Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2004, at 10 A.M. The Sandy Run Coon Hunters Association, a non-profit association, is once again the proud sponsor of this year’s parade. Everyone is encouraged to participate.
“The Sounds of Christmas” is the theme of this year’s parade in honor of all Sandy Run Korean War Veterans. In an effort to show our veterans how much they are appreciated, we are encouraging everyone to have music on their parade entry. Music could include, for example, songs that rejoice in the “Sounds of the Christmas Season”, or music with a patriotic theme, or a little of both. We want to make a joyful noise to let our veterans know that we care and that the sacrifices they made to preserve our freedom are appreciated. Churches in the community are also being encouraged to have their choir put a singing entry in the parade. An awards ceremony will begin immediately following the parade to recognize the Korean War Veterans and the parade entry winners.
In this year’s parade, the Sandy Run Ruritan Club is sponsoring a float to honor all living and deceased Sandy Run residents who were Veterans of the Korean War. Our goal is to recognize all Sandy Run residents who lived in Sandy Run when they left for the Korean War and/or all residents who have since moved into our community that served during the Korean War. The names of all living and deceased Korean War Veterans that we know of will be displayed. We need your help to identify those individuals. The name, rank, and branch of service of anyone who should be honored during our parade celebration are requested. The float sponsored by the Sandy Run Ruritan Club will proudly carry all Korean Veterans who would like to ride in the parade. Deadline for veterans to enter is December 10, 2004. For more information about the Korean War Veterans float and recognition, please call Curtis or Faye Lake at (803) 794-9351. |
