2001 Christmas Float

The Sandy Run Ruritans participated in the 2nd Annual Sandy Run Christmas Parade on December 22, 2001. The Sandy Run Coon Hunters Association organized the parade for our community.   Sandy Run Ruritan Club sponsored a float to honor the Veterans of World War II in the Sandy Run Community. After several weeks of intense searching, the Ruritans found that there were approximately 95 veterans in our community that served in the military during WWII. Of this number, there are 34 living and 61 now deceased. Five of our citizens lost their life during WWII.  The Sandy Run Ruritans were able to contact most of the remaining survivors who were asked to ride on our float so that we, the community, could give them the honor they deserve for their service to our country and community.  At the end on the parade, a ceremony of honor was conducted.  All veterans participating were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Sandy Run Community, as well as an engraved medallion.  Some of the friends and/or family members were on hand to receive the Certificate of Appreciation for the deceased veterans.  This was a great day for our veterans, our community and the Sandy Run Ruritan Club.  We all came away from this ceremony with a since of pride, honor and appreciation.  Thanks again to all of our WWII veterans.
