A Book About Me
On February 10, 2004 there was a lot of excitement, laughter, and great
reading from the students in the K5 class at the Sandy Run School
when they received their individualized books entitled "A Book About
Me". The presentation of the books was a joint effort between the
South Carolina BellSouth Pioneer Volunteers Chapter 61 Midlands Council
and the Sandy Run Ruritan Club. Fifty books were given out to the
K5 students and each book had the name of the child in the book, the names
of two of their best friends, the names of their teachers, their
principal, and the name of their school. The books are designed to help
young children develop a positive self-concept and an interest in
reading. The books also teach students these concepts: following rules,
practicing, listening, reading, sharing, helping, making good choices,
creating, being responsible, exercising, counting, and being nice and
polite. A teacher’s curriculum packet was also given to the K5 teachers -
Ms. Sharon Polin and Ms. Michelle Turberville.
