2002 A Book About Me On November 13, 2002 there was a lot of excitement, laughter, and great reading from the students in the K5 class at the Sandy Run School when they received their individual books titled A Book About Me. The presentation of these books was a joint effort between the South Carolina BellSouth Pioneer Volunteers Chapter 61 Midlands Council and the Sandy Run Ruritan Club. Fifty-one books were given out to the K5 students and each book had the name of a child in the book, with two of their best friends, the names of their teachers, their principal, and the name of their school. The books are designed to help young children develop a positive self-concept and an interest in reading. The books also teach students these concepts: following rules, practicing, listening, reading, sharing, helping, making good choices, creating, being responsible, exercising, counting, and being nice and polite. A teacher’s curriculum packet was also given to the K5 teachers. Thanks to the Sandy Run Ruritan Club and the South Carolina BellSouth Volunteers for making a positive difference in the lives of these children.
